The Col du Sabot trophy

The Col du Sabot rises to 1,865 metres in the Grandes Rousses massif, above Vaujany and the Eau d’Olle valley, not far from Alpe d’Huez. Its climb from the valley villages, through alpine pastures and boulder fields, makes it a demanding, little-known destination, loved by cyclists and hikers who seek out passes off the beaten track. It deserves a trophy to match.

From route to trophy

Every map is made in three steps, from raw data to finished object.

• The topographic data of the Col du Sabot are processed to rebuild the true relief of the terrain, contour line by contour line.
• The map is then 3D-printed: the massif takes shape, the ridges stand out, the valleys sink. The route of the climb is raised on the surface to give form to the effort.
• A solid oak base anchors the map. It is laser-engraved in our Bourg-d’Oisans workshop with the distance, elevation gain, average gradient and the name of the pass.

Its climb from the Eau d’Olle valley offers sustained gradients, a road that steadily steepens and views of the surrounding peaks that reward every pedal stroke and every step. The map renders this terrain in every detail: the way into the valley, the climb up to the pastures, the final stretch to the pass. Everything you went through, set in relief.

The Col du Sabot is no tourist pass. Crossing it, by bike or on foot, means accepting the effort, the isolation and the reward that comes with them. This 3D map is made to keep a tangible record of that personal achievement. It looks like no photo and no GPS trace on a screen. It takes up space, it has weight, you can touch it. It’s an object that tells the story of a hard and successful day, to put on a desk, a shelf or a wall.

Every trophy is made to order in our workshop at the foot of Alpe d’Huez, in Bourg-d’Oisans. You choose the size, the terrain and route colours, and the shape of the base.
